It takes many brave steps to successfully set up your own business; and leaving full time employment to live out a long held dream is probably one of the bravest steps you can take. This is exactly what Sarah Anderson decided to do when she took voluntary redundancy from the Civil Service, to set up her own business.
“I decided to take voluntary redundancy after being with them for 10 years. I wanted to follow my heart and start doing contemporary photography and hand made-jewellery. I could have stayed in my job, but I wanted to work for myself.”
Sarah came to Outset Plymouth looking to learn vital new skills and seek advice and support to help her set up her own business.
“The flexible support Outset Plymouth offer meets your needs whatever stage you are at, and my confidence has grown so much since I started my business. I recently showcased my hand-made jewellery at Outset Plymouth’s Celebration Day at the Lord Mayor’s Reception Hall and sold over £100 pounds worth of stock!”
Sarah Gail Designs offers a very extensive range of hand-made jewellery from simple pendants, to elaborate matching sets of neckwear, earrings and wrist-wear; every piece is unique and tailor made. Sarah has plans to develop a menswear range from natural wood to funky silver jewellery in the near future, from her home studio where she currently designs and works.
“Without the support of Outset Plymouth I would not have had the nerve to go it alone.”
Outset Plymouth has been funded by the ERDF Competitiveness and Employment programme which invests in activities that will have a long-term impact on the growth and develop of the local economy.
