For football and film-loving Ross Bullen, being made redundant after working 9 years for a legal firm in London – was a blessing in disguise!
“I decided there and then that I would take control of my own destiny, and the first thing I did was to return home to Plymouth and work towards setting up my own business.”
Since a very early age Ross had an interest in computer technology, sparked when he received his first ZX Spectrum at the tender age of 11! “In the back of mind I always wanted to set up my own business and for the last 2 years I have been learning everything I need to know about web design and development. I can now design and develop ideas and products from start to finish – at very competitive prices.”
Having been referred to Outset Plymouth, Ross joined Outset’s Foundation programme and completed 15 weeks of workshops and one-to-one sessions. “I felt the process in setting up my own business was a lot easier when I did the Outset Workshop sessions, and I thoroughly enjoyed the team spirit of working with other like-minded people. Outset Plymouth was very supportive and created a relaxed environment and delivered key information that was very clear and precise. The business processes and structures were delivered in bite size-chunks that were easier to digest; a step- by-step approach that was orderly for me.”
Ross registered as self-employed in November – and his business went live in January 2011. “I am offering affordable web services that are tailor made for small businesses whatever their budgets or requirements! I want to develop my business into a network of creative and technology based businesses. My company is a virtual business and I’m keen to develop it across the South West and UK wide.”
Outset Plymouth has been funded by the ERDF Competitiveness and Employment programme, which invests in activities that will have a long-term impact on the growth and develop of the local economy.
