City duo, Paul Jordan and Derek Davidson, were both made redundant when social housing giant, Connaught, closed down leaving them at a real crossroads in their career.
“This was the ‘big moment of decision’ where we decided to set up our own business.” said Derek Davidson, a lone parent of two, who spent over 17 years in the RAF, and worked for blue-chip companies such as Sony and Nokia before he joined Connaught.
‘Drumknot’ is a brand new internet and social media marketing company based in Plymouth that offers something totally different for other companies. “ We avoid the usual search engine optimisation techniques, and instead use tried and legitimate processes that work with the search engine providers to elevate customers presence on the web.”
Derek’s business partner, father-of-three, Paul Jordan, (originally from London but graduated in Plymouth in 1987 with an electronic engineering degree), has spent most of his career working in IT systems provisions. “I fell in love with the city and decided to stay. I have run franchise businesses in the past with experience in running my own business. Myself and Derek have a unique new business that is offering something different over our competitors.”
Paul was referred to the Outset Plymouth programme by a friend and attended a series of workshop and networking sessions. “I realised very quickly that I was not alone in recognising the challenges in wanting to be self-employed, but I really lapped up the radical ideas of other like-minded entrepreneurs on the courses. I also like the ongoing support of the Outset Plymouth team.”
Outset Plymouth has been funded by the ERDF Competitiveness and Employment programme, which invests in activities that will have a long-term impact on the growth and develop of the local economy.
