When Anne Corry met Christine Whyte through a coaching programme, they had no idea what fate had in store for them!
“I am a single mum of two teenagers and after the break-up of my 14 year marriage I was struggling through life until I met, and was coached by Anne Corry.” Says Christine Whyte. “The 12 Steps to happiness programme gave me my life back. Since then I have started work on a Psychology degree with the Open University, and until recently chaired the Plymouth group of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.”
Having developed a strong relationship through the coaching, Christine and Ann decided launch a new business called ‘The Life Detectives’, which helps local people overcome personal barriers to fulfil their personal and professional ambitions.
The city duo read about Outset Plymouth in the local press, and decided they wanted to know more about how the organisation could help them move forward with their ideas.
Christine continues; “Thanks to Outset Plymouth programme I got the chance to meet other like-minded people wanting to set up their own companies, and really enjoyed the team spirit and the ‘we are all in it together’ attitude.”
Anne, who has run her own business for the last 7 years still found a great deal of benefit in the Outset Plymouth programme. “Four years ago I was given a Government Entrepreneur award for my one-to-one working with people who were having difficulty with ‘life transitions’. This has enabled me to teach people essential life skills and help them move forward. I met Christine and we instantly had a strong professional connection, and wanted to set up a joint business venture.”
“We are really pleased with Outset Plymouth who continue to give us mentoring support throughout our first trading year. The support we have been given around marketing, and advisor guidance has been exceptional.”
The Life Detectives’ is built around the ‘12 Life Steps to happiness’ programme which is run over 12 weeks, and over 12 sessions. Following on from that, the HAPPY4LIFE CLUB is a 12-month contract that will give individuals one-to-one support, on-line and telephone guidance, and group networking so people feel part of a community, and have a ‘sense of belonging’.
Outset Plymouth has been funded by the ERDF Competitiveness and Employment programme, which invests in activities that will have a long-term impact on the growth and develop of the local economy.
