A PLYMOUTH couple have formed a PR business and attracted 30 clients in just six months – including start-up businesses like their own.

Fireproof PR was officially launched in the autumn of 2011 by Neal and Emma Taynton-Young, both of whom have extensive experience working with major companies.

The Tamar Science Park-based venture is already providing public relations and design services to more than 30 clients including The Original Pasty House, Tinhay Building Supplies and Admin Fairies.

Fireproof was created after Mrs Taynton-Young was made redundant, having worked in corporate communications and public relations for more than 15 years.

She had previously held influential and senior communications roles at organisations such as McDonald’s, the police, and Britannia Building Society.

Mr Taynton-Young graduated from Falmouth School of Art and Design in 1995 with an honours degree in graphic information design.

The couple are also working extensively with start-up businesses to enable them to showcase their work and present a professional image to peers and customers.

Mrs Taynton-Young said: “For the last 15 years we have worked with and for SMEs, international corporations, public bodies and charities, and are able to understand the varying and unique needs of each organisation type.”

Fireproof worked closely with start-up organisation Outset Plymouth, and its sister venture Outset Finance, and has attended many of the organisations’ free networking and support activities.

Outset is a £1.2million programmes funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Plymouth City Council, to support people looking to self-employment opportunities.

Mrs Taynton-Young added: “Running your own business is exciting and terrifying at the same time.

“We have to wear a variety of different business hats every day, but while it is hard work, it is also very rewarding and I can’t see myself ever working for someone else again.”
